A trip to Edinburgh Zoo

July 26, 2015

I have a little apology to make – it seemed like I was finally getting into the swing of regular posting on Behind These Closed Eyes, and then life managed to get in the way. In between working, planning a wedding and now house-hunting, there really hasn’t been much time to sit in front of the laptop and type away about my new favourite makeup bits – as much as I wish I could be doing just that! To break up all of the planning and decision making that’s happening right now, David and I decided to jump in the car and spend the day at Edinburgh Zoo. I hadn’t been to the zoo since I was about 5 so I was really looking forward to it, and we ended up getting some amazing summer weather which made the day even better.

If you haven’t already been to Edinburgh Zoo and ever get the chance to go, I’d definitely recommend it. Between the new Dinosaurs Return Exhibition, the famous Giant Pandas Sweetie and Sunshine, the Penguin Parade and so many other animals and exhibitions to wander around, you really have a lot to get around when you step into the zoo. I’d really recommend keeping the zoo map to hand as there are so many things to see and so many different ways to get around the zoo, and with the zoo being built on hills, it’s probably wise to plan your route before you start climbing those hills!

Unfortunately we didn’t get around to seeing the pandas as we hadn’t booked a slot beforehand, but we still managed to enjoy the Penguin Parade which takes place at 2.15pm every afternoon. What I love is that the parade is completely voluntary for the penguins and while we only had 2 penguins that ventured out of Penguins Rock for the parade (that soon became one as the other had to be carried by a keeper!), it was still a lovely experience to have the penguins waddling past, right at your feet. All in all we had a lovely time at Edinburgh Zoo and I would thoroughly recommend it as a day out for anyone, regardless of your age!

I’d love to know – have you ever been to Edinburgh Zoo?
