Dehydrated skin saviours | Cleansers

I’ve been fighting a bit of a skincare battle for the last few months, so I thought it was about time I posted an update on what I’ve tried so far and how my skin is doing now.

To give you a quick re-cap on why I’ve needed to rethink my skincare routine… my skin went from oily combination to massively dehydrated in what felt like the blink of an eye, and I really noticed how bad it had gotten around February/March time this year as makeup would literally just flake off my face no matter how I applied it, and my skin was constantly plagued with stubborn dry patches. This was particularly visible on my forehead, nose and chin. I knew I had to give my skincare routine a complete overhaul and I’m happy to say that my skin is in much better condition, so I’ve put together a little skincare series detailing how I’ve changed each step in my routine and what difference it’s made to my skin. Part 1 is all about cleansers…

The morning cleanser

The morning cleanse has become such an important step in my routine now. I’ll be honest and admit that I was very lazy with this in the past and would sometimes skip this, moving straight on to applying moisturiser and slapping on some makeup, but I now make sure to give my skin a quick cleanse each morning to make sure it’s ready for makeup. My cleanser of choice has been the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser as it’s so lightweight and soothing, leaving my skin feeling nicely soft and smooth. I’ve found this has made a massive difference to how makeup is sitting on my skin as it always has a smooth and clean base, and I find that this particular cleanser is also great for injecting a bit more moisture into the skin!

The evening cleanser

Always one for milky and creamy cleansers, I’ve since made the move over to a balm cleanser and boy has it made a difference to the condition of my skin. The balm cleanser I’ve loved reaching for is The Body Shop’s Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter thanks to its ability to remove all my makeup in the evenings without any hassle, while still managing to leave my skin feeling super soft and hydrated afterwards. There’s no more dry patches in sight and I put a lot of this down to this cleanser, it’s just that good! I can see myself repurchasing this cleansing butter time and time again and would highly recommend it if you also suffer from dry or dehydrated skin.

The ‘when I’m feeling lazy’ cleanser

I’ll admit that I still have my lazy moments when it comes to cleansing… those nights when you get in and literally all you want to do is climb into bed, never mind fussing around with a full skincare routine. For those nights I like to reach for the Garnier Oil-Infused Cleansing Water. All you need to do is give the bottle a good shake (the oil and cleansing water need mixed), pour a little onto a cotton pad and swipe away. Having oil included in this cleansing water makes removing stubborn makeup so easy as it dissolves and breaks down even waterproof formulas, and it also does a great job of keeping my skin feeling nicely hydrated and healthy. I used to shy away from oils due to my oily combination skin, but now I just can’t get enough!
