As someone with short and naturally straight lashes, I’m always on the lookout for a mascara that’s lengthening, volumising and adds a good curl to the lashes. That’s not too much to ask for, eh? The latest mascara on my list to try was the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara*, and this is how I got on…
First things first, I have to comment on the packaging. This has to be the most luxuriously presented mascara I’ve tried thanks to the weighty tube, although it is a little on the large side if you’re wanting to squeeze it into your makeup bag. The tube is simple and chic-looking, but one that I’m happy to whip out on any occasion.
The brush is also large with an hourglass shape that claims to place the most volume at the centre lash line, while the defining tip adds even more volume for maximum drama. I like that this brush holds a lot of product which results in instantly thicker looking lashes but without the clumps, hooray. The mascara does a great job of separating and volumising the lashes with a few quick swipes, the only thing that I find it’s missing is the curling aspect (although I sometimes pair this with my Maybelline Lash Sensational to really give my lashes some oomph).
The formula is more on the dry side which I like as it stays put on the lashes without flaking or smudging, and I’m happy to say that I’ve been using my tube for around 2 months and it’s still going strong – no drying up in sight. Want to know the best thing? The volumising and separating I’ve seen on my lashes lasts all day long, with them looking exactly as they did when I get home from work each day. I also like that the mascara can be used lightly for a more natural and defined look, or built up for a more dramatic look.
The Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara does come in pricey at £22 for 9g of product, but it’s one that I can definitely see myself repurchasing as I think it’s worth every penny for those results. I just need to get through the many other mascaras in my drawer first! Have you tried this mascara, or anything else from the Marc Jacobs beauty range?
