The Ordinary Skincare

Welcome to one of the most scientific blog posts I’ve ever written.. all about the brand that has quickly taken over my skincare routine! I’m sure you’ll all have heard about The Ordinary and their incredibly affordable products by now, but I wanted to add my two cents as I’ve absolutely loved using the range so much while I’ve been testing it for the last few months. The skincare range may seem a bit intimidating to begin with as the name of each product reflects the ingredients inside rather than the desired effect it’ll have on your skin, but after a bit of research it should be easier to pick out the right ones for you. I managed to find quite a selection of The Ordinary products left on ASOS so popped a few in my basket, and made sure to focus on 2 areas – hydration and exfoliation.

Lets start with hydration..

I have combination skin which can certainly go from one extreme to the other – unsightly dry patches to a super shiny t-zone – so I’m always on the lookout for products that can hydrate without encouraging the oil. I decided to pick up the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (£6) as a hydrating serum, and boy does it do its job well! This mix of Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 is perfect for those with dry or dehydrated skin as it sinks in instantly (my skin just can’t get enough of it) and leaves skin feeling so soft and smooth. I tend to reach for this serum in the morning before applying moisturiser and it’s one that I can see staying in my skincare routine for a long time to come.

I then like to move on to the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA cream moisturiser (£5). This cream includes a whole host of key elements that protect and hydrate the skin (amino acids, fatty acids and ceramides to name a few), further boosted by the inclusion of hyaluronic acid. Personally I think that the hyaluronic acid serum and this moisturiser are a match made in heaven as they create such a smooth base that’s ready for makeup in the mornings, and I’ve really noticed a difference in the staying power and overall appearance of my foundation since using these – it’s never looked better if I do say so myself!

Moving on to exfoliation..

I’d heard so much about the next product that I just had to give it a go. The Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% (£5.50) is a chemical exfoliant and skin peel that won’t be for everyone (those with sensitive skin will probably want to give this one a miss), but one that I’ve really loved using on a daily basis as I’ve seen such a difference in my skin as it’s looking much clearer and more full of life. This exfoliator encourages the skin to peel without causing inflammation, but if you’d like something stronger, there’s also a 10% version available (I’m not quite there yet).

Last but not least is the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (£6.50), a 10 minute exfoliating facial that I like to save for a Sunday night when I have a good pamper. This treatment is packed full of alpha and beta hydroxyl acids to exfoliate the skin as well as clear congested pores – all you need to do is apply to clean and dry skin, leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off to reveal a complexion that’s brighter and a lot more even looking, as well as skin that’s incredibly smooth and clear.

I’d love to know – have you tried anything from The Ordinary?
