Highlighting is a step I tend to skip when I’m rushing to do my makeup in the morning, but it’s something I’d very much like to get back into this year. As I mentioned in my Beauty Brands to Try in 2015 post, theBalm was a brand I was very interested in trying, and especially the Mary-Lou Manizer which had been doing the rounds on blogs and Youtube in 2014. I couldn’t resist this pretty highlighter when it had 10% off on Feel Unique (currently out of stock) and it’s safe to say that it has been seen on my cheeks every single day since it arrived.
Firstly I wanted to touch on the packaging of Mary-Lou Manizer, and indeed the rest of theBalm’s range, as it’s just so fun. Mary-Lou Manizer comes in a sturdy silver compact with a good sized mirror inside, and you get 8.5g of product which I think will last for a very long time as you only need to use the tiniest swipe of powder each time.
On to the product itself. The powder has such a smooth and buttery texture that gives the skin a lovely glow without leaving it looking too glittery. The pigmentation of Mary-Lou Manizer is what impressed me the most as it’s just so pigmented, meaning that it can be quite easy to go overboard when applying it to the skin. I apply the smallest amount of product to the tops of my cheek-bones with the Real Techniques Contour Brush, and what I’m left with is a brighter looking complexion and glowing skin. I’d describe this highlighter as a golden-toned champagne shade which I’m sure I’ll be wearing all year round, but I think it will look especially pretty in the summer months with dewy looking, tanned skin.
All in all I’m so glad that I finally bit the bullet and tried out this gorgeous product from theBalm. It may be a bit on the pricier side at £16, but you really can’t argue with the price when you’re getting such a buttery and pigmented product that’s a dream to work with. As I’ve already mentioned, I can see Mary-Lou Manizer lasting a very long time so it’s an investment I’d really recommend making. And I have to say.. my skin has never looked better!
